I couldn't resist the contrasts presented to me by the afternoon light as I walked deep into the valley. The road winds around the corner and drops down to cross the river in the bottom. Although the view presents an exciting open aspect to the sunlit hillside, the element that attracted me was the thin sliver of light illuminating the snowy verge just beyond the gate. Over the wall, almost disguised against the landscape are a row of houses converted from an old textile mill. Plumes of smoke indicate a desire for warmth as the fading light brings with it another cold night.
