About the Event

WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP

Bigger brushes lead to looser paintings. Learn how to free up your approach to watercolour in this inspiring workshop and paint with confidence. We will explore big brush types, calligraphic mark making, where to use big brushes and how to tighten up at the end. In this workshop you will learn about the purposes of using big brushes, how big brushes can simplify and free up your approach to watercolour as well as understanding which types are most useful to the watercolour painter. You’ll learn big brush mark making from large blocks to fine lines, dry brush and simplified energetic shapes. If you’ve been wanting to loosen your work, this workshop is a must.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Photo references to work from, either printed or on an i-Pad or tablet. For best results include a grey scale (black and white) image of the same.

  • Paints - There are no specific colours, but as a guide, most paintings can be created from Winsor yellow, yellow ochre, cerulean blue, French ultramarine, cadmium red, and alizarin crimson. Other useful colours are titanium white and ivory black.

  • Brushes - At Least one large round, flat or mop along with a medium size and a smaller brush plus a fine rigger brush.

  • Palette - Either a plastic or ceramic tray, folding palette, or large mixing surface.

  • Paper - Saunders Waterford, Arches, Winsor Newton Professional or any similar cotton paper in either rough or cold pressed (NOT) surface. I would recommend working no bigger than 38 x 28cm unless you are confident in applying large washes of paint.

  • Other equipment - Waterpot, palette, Pencils 4B or 6B, putty rubber, kitchen roll, painting board, masking tape, water spray, household sponge wipe (thin moppet type).

  • Packed lunch.
